Akureyri Airport has announced that it will offer direct flights to six new destinations starting in 2023, making it the largest selection of destinations available for direct flights from the airport. In addition, travel agencies are offering package tours to some of these destinations.
Niceair, Condor, and Edelweiss are the airlines that will offer flights to Dusseldorf, Tenerife, Alicante, Copenhagen, Frankfurt, and Zurich. Flights can be booked directly through the airlines’ websites or through services such as Dohop and Skyscanner.
In addition to these planned trips, Verdi travel agency is offering trips to the Netherlands with Transavia, which flies for the Dutch travel agency Voigt Travel, and spring trips to Poland in collaboration with Niceair.
The increase in international flights from Akureyri Airport is expected to improve the quality of life for residents of North and East Iceland. The increase in the number of tourists is also expected to contribute to the development and success of tourism companies in the region.
This expansion of direct flights provides a great opportunity for locals to travel, either directly to the destinations offered or through connecting flights from four airports that offer a wide range of destinations. “Residents should take advantage of the opportunities that these international flights create,” says Arnheiður Jóhannsdóttir, CEO of the North Iceland Marketing Office. “Airports such as Copenhagen, Dusseldorf, Frankfurt, and Zurich offer almost endless opportunities for connecting flights, making it easy to travel to other parts of the world quickly and conveniently. And let’s not forget the convenience of returning home quickly.”
