Norðurþing municipality granted 32.6 million króna for fiber-optic connections in rural areas

Sigurður Ingi Jóhannsson, minister of Transportation and Local Government, Páll Jóhann Pálsson, chairman of the Telecommunications Fund of Iceland, and local representatives, today signed agreements on co-sponsorship from the Telecommunications fund and regional grants from the Ministry of Transportation to build a network of fiber-optic
in rural areas in 23 municipalities around Iceland.

Norðurþing municipality was granted 32.6 million for rural areas within the municipality.rtunity to cooperate. The agreements grants 23 municipalities a total of about 1,475 million króna from 2019 to 2021, in order to connect up to 1700 eligible locations as well as a number of other buildings that do not receive funding.
